Operation: Welcoming Committee

TLDR: We put a spy into Brave Newbies to be connected to their wormhole edition, 3 visits, 1 real fight.

First I want to say, BNI or Brave Newbies are a hell of a corp/alliance.  Not sure if their overall play style will work for them in the long term, but I was a fan of it while I was a part of it.

To get into BNI isn’t hard, all you really need to do is send an app and some kind of description as to who you are. Mine was “ I’m a spy alt, please let me in”. Not joking.

I hung out in Raha and got a few kills, did some dumb things, generally had a good time. But it really wasn’t why I joined. My goal was to use BNI as a platform to get launched into another more strict recruit corp. Turns out, it wasn’t really needed. Brave Newbies has a small spin off corp called “Dropbears Anonymous”. They advertise freely within BNI and have BNI set to blue. They even share mumble coms with them. I honestly thought it would be much harder, but then again this is BNI we are talking about. God blessem for not giving a fuck.

At the time I just joined the Dropbears channel and said “HI, how do I get into the wormhole?” No further verification of non-evil status was needed. I was added to the private dropbears wormhole intel channel, which in the message of the day said the high sec connection they were connected to at the time. They asked me what I could fly, I told them. Not much. They didn’t care.

The high sec was really all I needed. With the high sec connection known, I simply needed to put in a scanning alt, and I could raid them anytime I wanted. I did just that.

I found they were living in a C2 Black Hole, static High sec, static C3.

I flew around in a cloaking tengu and was about to gank one of the miners happily mining away in an anom. Then I thought to myself, maybe I should check what they had. At the time of scanning, I saw multiple frigs, cruisers, battle cruiser, logi cruisers, battle ships. All piloted, all just “waiting”. I jumped on the BNI coms and listened to see if they saw me jump into the c2 and would then be on a state of alert, perhaps baiting with the miner. Nope. None of that. I let him go about his business, I wanted the big fleet.

I pipe up in my own voice coms.. “who wants to fight a huge BNI WH fleet”?  Of course EVERYONE jumped at the chance.  We wanted to catch them out of the POS and hopefully not at the high sec wormhole, I can’t stand that.  So the only idea we had was to catch the ratting fleet as it moved though the static c2/c3 connection. Because of all the ships on scan, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t leading my gang into a death trap. BNI are newbies, but the shouldn’t be underestimated. They can call targets well, their logi is adequate and their fleets typically follow good fleet practice. .

We brought 4 guardians, 1 proteus, 1 legion, multiple battle cruisers and cruisers. We even invited some friends of ours from Inerrant (a bro corp).  We were expecting a massive throw down. And even with all the stuff we bought, and we were outnumbered at the time mind you.

We landed on the connecting hole just as the fleet was warping off. We caught only people who warped late. That’s ok, all their pilots could simply ship up. They didn’t. They said in local, there wasn’t any way what they had could break our 4 guardians. Fair enough, we weren’t mad I guess we came in kind of strong.  Perhaps a little excessive.

Listening to them on their voice coms wasn’t as entertaining as I thought it would have been. The nicest guy in the world “a DAMN PATRIOT” was apologizing to everyone who lost ships and sounded sorry to the people who lost ships. Like some kind of tour guide who just got everyone lost. It was depressing.

What’s worse is, he asked one of our directors if we had a spy. But let’s be real here, he isn’t going to say yes.  My corp will always keep its word, but I never said anything about lying to people.

A few days after the fight I found out Psychotic Monk from belligerent undesirables and lord of “Big RED war dec” had a few ships in that hole and was destroying miners, and fucking with them in local. Psychotic Monk is a friend of ours, so I opened a convo and said basically if he needed any wormhole muscle for a fight in that hole, we would be happy to lend a hand. He said ‘thanx, I’ll keep that in mind’.

I found out after that, there was a character from AHARM, was in that hole too. Something about him putting up a POCO in the place of POCO drop bears removed. LOL.

So that’s 4 separate groups fighting over this horrible c2/HS/C3 black hole. Good Times.

Thrus rolls around I get a convo from Psychotic Monk, a multi battleship fleet, backed up by 4 logi  was farming the Static of drop bears. OOO this should be fun. I tell everyone to not bring crazy stuff. We bring only 2 guardians, 1 t3, and various other cruisers and battle cruisers. We even bring less people.

This time, we move the gang on top of the c2/c3 and they have eyes on both the high sec, and on the c2/c3. They scatter. They don’t even come through the way they came. They fly around the c3 like chickens with their heads cut off. They have multiple battleships supported by logi inside the c3. Not only that, they have even more pilots in the POS. Nothing. ZIP. We chased around some ships but in the end we only killed on brave griffin.

Lame. Also we find out from the spy, they are proud of it! They are proud that they didn’t fight, that they ‘blue balled us’. This isn’t null sec fuckers, people get removed for that shit! Don’t bring your pos up/station up blue ball bull shit into MY W-space!  If it wasn’t for our other operations, we would have done a full scale invasion right then and there.

I was honestly pissed. I expected more of them. Two times we showed up on their turf, they had the pilots, they had the ships, they simply didn’t want to give back to Bob, what Bob so generously gave to them. ISK.

I assured my guys, we would be returning to get our fight, one way or another.

The next day, we returned.

This time, we intentionally ship down to t1 cruisers. Supported by two Augour and one damping celestus. No ECM.  I brought the flag ship! ‘bait gnosis’. This is a 120k armor tanked, multipoint scan rez boosted monster. Great for baiting. We also had two other battle cruisers, but nothing super special.  We didn’t bring a bubbler, we didn’t bring a T3 or even a t2. We brought an armor gang that would look good to fight, that we didn’t mind losing.

This time we went about it a little differently. I took the gnosis in alone and parked it on their c2/c3. A lone gnosis, sitting on a c2/c3 while their entire battleship/4 logi supported farming fleet was murdering sleepers. My support waited one jump out from their high sec connection.

They engaged!  I pulled in the rest of the fleet to fight the domi/logi/rape bus.. But in the confusion I forgot why the gnosis was actually there and failed to point anything but an augour. UGGGGG!!! Major derp on my part. We did catch a straggler on the other side, but nothing super awesome.

We exchanged some talk in local. Our entire fleet was sitting on the c2/c3 waiting for them to put together a fight. They had eyes on us, and knew exactly what we had.

Aside from “shoot2belowme”’s spurging in local, we were very friendly and patient. We came nearly 27 jumps just for this fight. We wanted them to engage and have fun. Shoot2belowme is from null sec and speaks a different language. It sounds like a total asshole way of speaking, but that’s how those null guys talk.

They actually brought a fight. And before you berate me about my target calling, I want you to know, I have been working long hours at work for weeks, and I’m totally burnt out. I’m normally just a little less bad.

The after fight convo.

[ 2013.07.27 03:27:19 ] Baghtar > better and quicker ;)

Now I want you to notice the “7o” I did there, Bronya jumps my shit for doing it
in the video, but honestly it was out of pure respect for BNI and that culture.
Bronya might not like them, but I will always be a fan.

Great dudes, and let’s hope they put more effort in the future towards internal
corp security, than farming sleepers.

Hit me up in game if you want their high sec connection. :P

Sermon of Bob

(fan fiction)

The scripture of Bob has yet to be written. These are his dogma.

Bob required stripper sacrifices to provide a temporary covering of sins and to foreshadow the perfect and complete sacrifice of his sleepers. Stripper sacrifice is an important theme found throughout Scripture because “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness”.

When the first wormholers sinned, strippers were killed by Bob to provide clothing for them. CCP Seagul and CCP Guard brought sacrifices to the Bob. CCP Guard's was unacceptable because he brought fruit, while CCP Seagul's was acceptable because it was the “firstborn of her flock”. After the invasion receded, Two-step sacrificed strippers to Bob.

Bob commanded the nation of wormhole space to perform numerous sacrifices according to certain procedures prescribed by Bob. First, the stripper had to be spotless (hard task, that can only happen through the cleansing heat of lasers). Second, the person offering the sacrifice had to identify with the stripper. Third, the person offering the stripper had to inflict death upon it.

When done in faith, this sacrifice provided a temporary covering of sins. Another sacrifice called for on the Day of Atonement, described in Bob 16, demonstrates forgiveness and the removal of sin.

The high priest was to take two male strippers for a sin offering. One of the strippers was sacrificed as a sin offering for the people of wormhole space, while the other stripper was released into the wilderness. The sin offering provided forgiveness, while the other stripper provided the removal of sin.
In summation, stripper sacrifices are commanded by Bob so that the individual could experience forgiveness of sin. The stripper served as a substitute—that is, the stripper died in place of the sinner, but only temporarily, which is why the sacrifices needed to be offered over and over.

---- His Fable

Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Bob is your god, Bob and he lives in the wormhole. Once, giants lived in the wormhole. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Bob, and they took from him the enigma of ISK. Bob was angered. And the wormhole shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into k-space, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of ISK and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of ISK has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts.

ISK you can trust.

Icky Gets a Free Orca

TLDR – Our scout finds a miner in a anom, miner warps off and comes back in an orca to pick up the cans. We tackle –He Ejects -- Free Orca

Sorry about how long the video is nothing happens till 9:00. I thought it would be entertaining to see a gank from start to finish.

This video is from the scouts perspective but he doesn’t record his own voice. So you only hear our comments . So all you hear is the corp banter in the background.
So this is a typical night in our corp. We have multiple scouts jumping into wormhole to wormhole looking for targets. Some of us sit around in combat ships on our alts ready to swoop in on targets once they are found. In our corp all pvp loots goes to the scouts. This time one of our scouts finds a miner, who ships up to an orca to pick up his jet cans. We tackle him, he ejects, we steal it. Then we give the orca (he can’t fly) to the scout who found it.

Special thanks to Eden .. our 2 week old EVE player, who sits on the target WH only to warp off randomly when told to jump in and tackle. LOL – o well, we were all new once.

I would like to point out, this scout flying this bomber has found us multiple billions in kill mails. All the loot goes to him. I think he has made about 2.5 bil in the 3 weeks he has been in our corp.
If you listen to Down the pipe podcast, you will recognize the voices.

SUSU Update

SUSU update

SUSU is growing, with its grow adds greater responsibility. SUSU has gotten to the point that I can no longer in good faith manage it by myself.

I would proudly like to welcome SUSU's first and only directors.

Bronya Boga

And

Cethion.

This a huge deal for our corp. The corp will be changing in the following ways.

1.  The trust relationship we have maintained to this point, was between the members and myself ONLY. This meant that when you joined our corp, the only person you needed to not AWOX the shit out of you and steal all your stuff, was me. This is no longer the case. Bronya and Cethion will both have the ability to rob the corp blind, my stuff included.

This is a big trust issue for me. I have always followed the golden rule of "Trust no one" and then asked you all to then "Trust Me". Having gotten to know both Cethion and Bronya, I feel a level of trust between myself and them has been established.

I am speaking for myself in this equation. I am not speaking for everyone else. That being said, I am giving anyone who doesn't like this idea 6 days to clear out expensive gear from JIM.

Not asking you to leave the corp, but I want you to know that things are changing and you have the opportunity to reduce your equipment foot print and commitment level, because of this factor.

2. The power these two people will have will be second only to me. They both have been tasked with making positive changes in fleet doctrine and combat readiness. If you fuck up, I have asked them to pull you aside and sort you out. Please listen to them, they know their shit. If you have an issue with the way they do this, or disagree with why they are doing it, please bring it up to me personally.

They both have a big job ahead of them, their goals are broad. Please work with them.

3. Tab assignment and role granting will be addressed by myself ONLY. I got it just right and they are not allowed to touch it, until I have trained them further on this task.

THIS GOES INTO EFFECT --- 7/16/13 -- Director roles will be granted On this date.

Thank you for the understanding and this is a good step for us!

Gank Stories

TLDR; We gank some people and record it.

I typically don’t write about all our ganks, usually just the interesting ones. In this case Cylin went out of his way to actually push the Faps record button, which is much more than I can remember to do in most situations. BTW I want to call out here and now, he is a much better pilot than myself. He makes far fewer mistakes. I’m bad and I wake up feeling bad.

We aren’t the best pilots in EVE, but our thirst for player explosions is near the top. Yay Cylin for remembering to record our stuff!

Story 1.

We came across a c2/c3/HS connected to our c3 static. Cylin was the scout for this and upon jumping in, he found an Ishtar on scan and a cov ops. Following the first steps when hunting, he tried to get ‘eyes’ on the  ships in their POS. In doing so, we saw another ship on scan, a pod then an Abandon. This is good because it means there is life in this  hole.

We check for recent NPC/Player kills in the hole. Nothing, but what we found strange was a floating can at the sun in the C3 we just came from. The tags matched the ticker on the pilots in the POS in the C2.  The can at the sun was filled with faction missile ammo. ?? No idea.

So these guys in the C2 knew about hole we were in, knew where the hole was and most likely had eyes in the C3. We had only jumped into the c3 with scout ships, scanning proteus and scanning tengu.  At worse they knew about those ships. Remember in wormhole hunting, hiding your numbers is critical. People can POS up at a drop of a hat and never come out for days, if they think you’re still around.

We decide to keep our ships in Jim on the c4/c3 hole and send in the bait.  We were betting on they may not have eyes in the c3, but if they wanted to commit to a fight, they may try and pop a scout into the c3 from their c2 to see before they commit. We couldn’t afford to give our numbers away to a gang of 2 guys.

Send in the bait.

I have been flying this gnosis around in low sec and baiting in wormholes as of late. I’m going to work this lure till it stops producing, but its far better IMO than “Bait Drake”.  There is a saying in wormholes. “The Drake is always Bait”. Soon after we are done with her, “The gnosis is always bait”

The fit:

low slot 0" type="1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II
low slot 1" type="1600mm Reinforced Steel Plates II
low slot 2" type="Damage Control II
low slot 3" type="Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
low slot 4" type="Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
low slot 5" type="Reactive Armor Hardener
                                   low slot 0" type="Experimental 10MN Microwarpdrive I
med slot 1" type="Warp Disruptor II
med slot 2" type="Warp Disruptor II
med slot 3" type="Warp Disruptor II
med slot 4" type="Warp Scrambler II
med slot 5" type="Sensor Booster II
hi slot 0" type="Medium Diminishing Power System Drain I
hi slot 1" type="Auto Targeting System II
                                   hi slot 2" type="Small YF-12a Smartbomb
                                   hi slot 3" type="Core Probe Launcher I
rig slot 0" type="Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
rig slot 1" type="Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
rig slot 2" type="Medium Trimark Armor Pump I
                                    qty="5" slot="drone bay" type="Hammerhead II

Tank with reactive hardener is 118k. I put a auto targeting system on it, because I had the free high slot and it gives 2 extra targets. I have since refit it with a WEB after what occurred in the video. The fit is a work in progress.

I jump the bait gnosis into the c2 and drop tech 1 scanning probes, good bait goes out of its way to not look like bait. I figured they must know about the c2 and would be able to get eyes on me before they committed with the abbaddon and the Ishtar. Just a newb out for a stroll scanning in my gnosis… herp a derp…

Nothing, for almost 20 minutes they kept switching ships to a scan ship, to a hauler, to a abbaddon, to a Legion. The legion warped out of the POS and I hoped to me. Nope. It warped out and cloaked someplace.

I finished scanning down the C2 in my bait gnosis, and found what must be the static High sec. It was the only hole other than c2. I didn’t want to get too far from the fleet in our c4 in the event there were more people in the c2 we didn’t know about, so I took a chance and  moved the fleet to the c3 side of the c2 and waited.

My only option at this point was to warp to the High sec and play out the ‘lost WH guy scenario”. I did, and the legion uncloaked next to me, at almost 0 on the hole. This was disappointing because no matter how many ships we brought in, the legion would just jump out into high sec. Think station games. I jumped out into the high sec and waited for my polarity to pass.

During this time the corp was trying to think of clever ways to get him off the hole that didn’t scream total and complete bait, convincing tactics. There were no anoms to try and rat in, a newb wouldn’t have any reason to sit at a planet or the sun.. so we were at a loss. We decided that a newb may try and go back to where he came from. Convincing ? meh, its all we had. Maybe they would miss the scam and warp after me, into the arms of the waiting fleet.

After polarity subsided I jumped into the c2 to find the Ishtar at 40 from the hole and the legion on top of it. The legion had deployed a medium warp bubble on top of the hole. It had not yet activated. I took my chances and went into warp to the c2. Worse that would happen is, I get scrammed and just jump back into the high sec. I made it in, and got the warp before the legion could point me.

This bubble was going to work to our advantage. It would trap my helpless newbie bait the next time I warped back to the high sec hole. Better yet, it would trap me 20 k from the hole and I would be “forced” to burn to the hole, or away from the hole back the way I came.  If they wanted to “catch me” they would need to get a web and a scram on me before I could get out of the bubble, thus pulling the legion off the hole into my fleets landing arms.

I went into warp to the now active warp bubble on the high sec hole. I told Cylin who had been watching the POS to warp to the HS hole and the fleet to jump in and hold cloak.

I landed on grid and played my part to burn away from the hole out of the ‘scarrrrryyy bubble trap’ these guys erected.  Sure enough, the legion burned to me and the Ishtar dropped sentry drones. The nuets almost made me lose point, but thankfully my trusty NOS was able to maintain the point.

The video takes over from here. LINK

I was slightly short tempered in that fight because of how long we waited to get this fight/gank. Almost 45 minutes of us fucking around with them for them to finally commit. I almost avoided giving them a chance to save their pods with a Haiku. The legion being so close to dying and still getting away was frustrating.  I have since put a web on my gnosis to avoid this crap in the future.

O well, shots were fired, and in the end that’s all that matters.

Dead Ishtar

Also after talking with the legion pilot after the fight, they totally knew the gnosis was bait, they just thought they could pop me before the fleet arrived. Good on them for at least trying and not POSing up.

Story 2:

Our newest member Jack Miton formerly of AHARM was diving(using k-space as a platform to jump into wormholes looking for targets) from high sec during the previous stories gank. He came across multiple battleships and two neut legions he was tormenting with his scanning proteus.

**side note about Jack** He is an avid fan of the podcast and a reader of this blog. His reasons for leaving the notable c6/c6 wormhole corp are his own. He assured me it wasn’t for nefarious reasons and we all know it wasn’t for giant fights or massive isk SUSU could provide. He is a great pilot and I used to be in ducks with him in the past. Stand up guy, knows his shit, very helpful and super friendly. He is also infinitely more wealthy than the entire corp put together.  We as a smaller growing corp, are gifted with his presence and whatever wisdom he will bring.  Anyone who has an issue with it, can talk to me personally.

After Jack was chased out of the c3 wormhole he found the ships in, I think they closed the wormhole behind his ship, trapping his combat ship outside in K-space. I may have my facts wrong, but I think he still had a scanning alt in the system and he found the new high sec quickly and jumped through it.  The battleships, and legions I guess never bothered to find the new high sec, and went about their business shooting at a POCO.

Bad choice on their part.

The high sec connection was 23 jumps the high sec we fought the legion on, but it was a chance to fight/gank some ships, so we burned full speed across high sec. Jack was the FC for this, and instructed us wait one high sec system out, in the event they had managed to get a cloaked ship outside of the hole in the high sec. They would see us in local chat, and perhaps put 1 and 1 together than we were coming to murder them.

After 23 jumps in high sec, we massed and waiting for Jack to get us a warp in. Cethion the mass murderer of the Gallentee had to station up in the target system to avoid the police.

Jack told us to jump in to the target high sec, and warp to the hole. Once our ships were on the hole he managed to get us a warp in for the two raven battleships and 2 oracles that were bashing the POCO.

Cethion in his assault frig and new recruit Lotor in his interdictor.

Here is the video of us landing and murdering

LINK

Mad props to Lotor for keeping that oracle pinned down long enough for us to get more dps on him. He is also another great pilot from another wormhole corp we recruited.

Again, our Haiku offering to save his pod was ignored. O well, shots were fired.

Special thanks to Jack Miton for getting us those kills.

O and I never figured out why those guys were set to blue on my character... Damn I have been playing this game too long.
